Youth Begin Room Expansion and Redesign

The teenagers in our church have had some unremarkable classrooms.

Yet they are such remarkable people....

With remarkably creative, unique personalities . . .

Who have proven that they can learn, worship and praise in remarkably odd places . . .

We think they deserve a remarkably creative room for all their endeavors -- praise, worship, Bible study, and entertainment ("fellowship").

The youth group is currently cleaning out the upstairs rooms above the church library to redesign into the FBC Youth Center.  Plans include replacing the carpet, painting the walls and furnishing with recliners and couches.  We'd like to put in a big screen tv with Wii games, a pool table, a ping pong table, a mid size refrigerator and a shelf of excellent reading materials and study guides they can use for individual use.

If you can donate financially or donate any of these materials, please contact the church office, Doug Busbee, or Nora Johnson.

Valentine's Day 2011

The youth did a fabulous job again with their annual Valentine's Banquet. (video below)  The banquet is a fundraiser where the youth serve as waitstaff and treat us to an elegant, delicious dinner.

For the traditional Newlywed Game, we convinced our new pastor and his wife to play along.  It was a great opportunity to get to know them better.  Way better.  As in T.M.I. better.

A big thanks goes out to all the youth and the adults who worked so hard to make this a success.  Especially (not pictured) the lady who made the Red Velvet Cake.

Brielle and Erika did a great job hosting the Newlywed Game and pulling quiet, reserved people out of their shell.

Enjoy the following video from the Newlywed Game.

Youth BBQ Dinner Fundraiser '10

-
The Youth had another great BBQ Fundraiser on the first weekend in November. This is getting to be quite an FBC tradition. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!
-

-
We enjoyed pots and pots and pots of Jackie's secret sauce. A bunch of the guys started cooking at 1 or 2 a.m.
-
-
We appreciate all the ways our church supports the youth ministry. Please keep them in your prayers, that they can spread the love of Christ among WSHS and surrounding schools.

Valentine's Banquet '10

We want to shout out a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped us raise money for camp with our Annual Valentine's Banquet. We appreciate the parents, volunteers and all the church people who came out and supported us, thank you, thank you!
It was another great Valentine's Banquet. The youth did a great job working hard and having a servant's heart. Enjoy the following photos.

We always look forward to seeing Mr. JB's Valentine Socks.
It's a tradition.

Youth BBQ Fundraiser '08

Thanks to all who helped!

The BBQ fundraiser was a big success. We sold 450 plates. Almost everybody who worked did 9 hours or more. Volunteers from all ages helped out.

It was such a blessing to be out in the community and visit with so many people. Tyler Brothers were having their Big Christmas Sale, so the town was packed.

The guys started cooking at 4:00 a.m. I took them my famous Monkey Bread around 6:30 while Jackie, Brielle and Kelsy cooked them a hearty breakfast around 7.

-
Many of the youth were there that early, too, and our adult volunteers showed up soon after.

-
Several of the youth rode bikes around town and sold more tickets and advertised the cookout.

We have such a great church family, I love to watch the youth, they are changing so much. I love seeing them around town at non-church events. I love it when they give me a hug or a huge hello.

I love seeing the adults and senior adults mingle with the teenagers. I don't think all churches are like that. I really think we have a special homestyle family feel.

-

I love how we can count on each other & we help each other & socialize & have fun.
-
-
I hope the teenagers take this with them throughout their lives into other churches and other communities. I hope they fondly remember these days, too, much as I remember the church of my youth and childhood.

Finally it was show time. We were ready to rock. Our first dinners were served early, I think it may have been 10:30.

Marj missed out. She was across the street working at Tyler Brothers. Several others were there, too, or working at the Pig.

Connie shared the love with Oscar Rushton from Salley Baptist. With Jackie's Famous Barbecue Sauce all over his face, Oscar vowed revenge one day. I am so looking forward to that.

Us being such good people and all, you know, we even made deliveries.

Right around this part of the day, Mrs. Mae Busbee brought two of her homemade, piping hot pecan pies. Well, as soon as they were priced, I purchased one & I hightailed it out of there. I went to the Dolla General, bought a cold can of whipped cream, sped to my house and got me a big ol piece. (trust me, it's there somewhere) I left everybody down there working hard and I took me a Yum-O break. Yes, I did... but you know what . . .

These guys did a lot of heavy lifting and hauling.

There are so many of you that I didn't get pictures of. The problem with taking pictures is that you will always leave some people out. I will try to be more diligent next time. Thank you to ALL who helped, there are so many more not pictured here.

The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards the next youth trip.
